It rained during the night, this morning and finally stopped as we arrived at Avignon, a beautiful walled town which was captured by the King Louis V111 in the early 13th century and thereafter its walls and many buildings were built.
One of its early bridges is now a world heritage site although one could say ‘sur le Pont where’s it gone …..
The focal point of the inside of the walled town is the ‘Palais de Papas’ which was the home of the Catholic Pope from the early to late part of the 14th century.
Next to it was the cathedral known simply as ‘Avignon Cathedral’
The streets are very picturesque with up-market shops and restaurants
There were numerous squares, one of which housed the Templar Clock Tower near the Templar school
Tomorrow off to Perpignan and our last stop in France.
Love the sun flowers. Looks a lovely city
