France Day 7 – Grasse and Vence

A day away from the coast up in the mountains north of Cannes and Nice.

Our first stop was Grasse, the historical centre worldwide for the development of perfume.

We had a little walkabout first and saw the Cathedral de Norte Dame de Puy, a twelfth century Catholic Church

We then visited the perfumers Fragonard for a short visit around their factory. Not at all high tech processing and still founded around ‘The Nose’ who is a master perfumer and bases his creations on some 3000 essences.

This is a map of the locations for the sourcing of various essences.

We then drove through the mountains east to Vence and saw this town on the way

Our first impressions of Vence were poor but once we got lost in the fabulous streets of the old part of town our minds changed 180.

Definitely a wonderful place to stay and enjoy the true French life without too many tourists. Beautiful houses and streets leading into little squares with small restaurants.

Tomorrow off to Port Grimaud and yes folks that 60s iconic St Tropez
