Day 23 Vienna

Firstly the concert last night was marvellous in one of the rooms of the Orangerie of the Schönbrunn Palace with a mixture of orchestral pieces, operetta and dance celebrating Mozart and Strauss. It was preceded by dinner and we had to share an apple strudel !!!

Today started off as it has continued to do for most of the time – Rain.

We decided to go on a hop on hop off bus but stayed on for obvious reasons. When the rain did stop we managed to see St Stephens Cathedral.

We then walked down the famous Gaben Street where all the very high end shops are located and in its middle is a contradictory landmark called the Holy Trinity column which is dedicated to the poor victims of the plague of 1679.

Also just off Gaben Street is the church of St Peter

We then took another hop on bus trip to the North side of the Danube river and saw the largest church in Austria called ‘Franz von Assisi’ or St Francis of Assisi.

This was followed by a quick stop at Donauturm, the highest building in Vienna.

Tomorrow hoping the weather will improve we are going back to the Schönbrunn Palace for a guided tour around their many buildings and then our visit to the Opera House.
