As promised we set off by bike to go to the cable car only to find it took one hour and a quarter to get there! Well worth it with a great ride up to the top of Mount Untersberg which is part of the Alps between Germany and Austria.
Here are some of the views of Salzburg and surrounding mountains.
We then set off for the Schloss Hellbrunn a house built by a cardinal in the beginning of the 17th century as a summer house but was never slept in. The Cardinal Sittikus Von Hohenems was a bit of a joker with lots of water features to catch out his guests and soak them in different parts of the gardens. One feature built in 1650 was a mechanical theatre with over 300 characters who would move due to water power from a water wheel
Couple of interesting photos on the 50 minute ride back through Salzburg was a garden with a 10-12 ft pink suited statue (and a nice stainless steel feature on the balcony) and this fabulous picture of the fortress
The Fortress is where we a going for dinner tonight followed by a Mozart, Hayden and Strauss Concert.
Whow I am liking these pics – cant wait to see the sound of music pics 🙂
What an amazing and beautiful place, Austria is now definitely on my bucket list. Hope the concert is fabulous. Well done David if you kept Lesley out of those shops.
Glad your RV is comfortable and keeping you out of the hotels ?
