We are now up on the North West coast having left the Basque region and entered into Asturias.
The drive across was lovely with lush green fields and sharp rocky mountains .
The campsite is about 5 miles from Gijon so we decided to go provision shopping in the southern part with a supermarket in the ground floor of a football stadium!
On our ride we couldn’t miss the amazing university. This building in the photo is over 300,000 sq ft and is the biggest in the whole of Spain.
The university was originally built between 1946 and 1955 but underwent a substantial renovation between 2001 and 2007. The spire belongs to the church which is unconsecrated and currently used for art exhibitions. The actual spire is the tallest stone structure in Spain.
On our way back from shopping we came across these two statues just outside the university.
Tomorrow its back to sightseeing in Gijon.
