Spain Day 18 – Barcelona

Well the excitement got to us when we approached our hop on hop off bus.

We were on the bus for no more than 400 metres when we came across the Arc de Triomphe built in 1888 as did a number of other famous statues or buildings in Barcelona built for an exposition that year

So now we had to hop back on but thought we would jump ahead to another stop later on the route. An hour later and 3 sitings of the Cathedral we finally got back on the bus only to see this wondrous statue of Apollo riding his chariot.

This was also built around 1888 and was part of a fountain built in the new Park de la Ciutadella.

On the edge of the Park was also the science museum with its interesting facade.

Now remember we are still on this bus wondering when we should hop off again. The Sagrada Familia gave us every good reason.

The Sagrada Familia is a Catholic basilica started in 1888 and is known that 131 years later it has still not been finished. 5 million people see this amazing sight every year – designed by Gaudí but after his death a number of architects have been involved each leaving their mark on its design.

Our previous blog omitted the austere Cathedral be Barcelona.

In addition we both saw this amazing statue to mark the suffering and hardship in the world

We leave tomorrow going inland to Huesca…….
