France Day 6 – Antibes, Juan Les Pins and Cannes

A day of going back 50+ years to when I stayed in Antibes for a whole summer with a French family. How different would it all be?

Well the answer is unrecognisable…..

Our first stop was Antibes – a beautiful old town with quaint streets with loads of restaurants and what used to be the small marina is now

and that wasn’t even the half of it!

The luxury yachts were everywhere to be seen and admired including some interesting sculptures especially at the port entrance

On then to Juan Les Pins which has exploded in size and looks like a tired sea side resort with very little historical foundations. A great shame from the quaint village that it used to be with Cap d’ Antibes wedged between them.

Finally we arrived in Cannes which still has the very up market shopping streets to go with the luxury yachts but has combined this with allowing 3000 berth cruise liners to dump folk on the town with no interest than in touristy paraphernalia and down market restaurants.

This is how the real wealthy folk live and with the film festival still makes it a place to be.

We came across this painted wall on the side of a police station in Cannes – prizes for who can work out who most of the people are or represent ??

Tomorrow up in the mountains to Grasse to see where some perfumes are made.
