Day 22 Vienna

As we started sightseeing the rains came. We took the Metro to Karlsplatz in the centre of Vienna and some of the most beautiful historic buildings you will see anywhere in the world. Every building has been renovated to its original state and colour.

As we stepped out of the Metro we saw the Church of St Charles

Followed by the Opera House (and a hop on hop off bus)

We passed the Burggarten gardens on our way to the Hofburg Palace

Which is enormous and has multiple museums, the Library, galleries, offices and the Lipizzaner Spanish Riding School.

We also saw the training school next door and some of the inmates in amazing stables

We went on to the Rathaus and Parliament buildings which were being restored and covered up. Then we found the Cathedral which reminded us of the now burnt Norte Dame in some of its architecture.

On our way home we passed the Albertina gallery with its interesting steps.

Off to the Schönbrunn Palace this evening for an early dinner and concert of Mozart and Strauss. (We were lucky to buy tickets for Monday night to see Otello at the Viennese Opera House)

More sightseeing tomorrow although rain forecasted most of the day.

  1. Just finished reading your entries from Salzburg forward. You have done a masterful job in presenting, in great detail, every minute of your grand adventure. Photos aren’t too shabby either. Keep them coming!
